The second fastest of the four classes at the Rolex 24 at Daytona are the LMP2 cars. All of these cars have identical Gibson GK428 naturally aspirated V8 engines. These 4.2-liter, 32-valve engines make around 600 horsepower and are paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox sending power to the rear wheels.

Because all the cars in LMP2 use this same gearbox type, the racing comes down to driver execution, pit strategy, setup, and traffic management rather than mechanical differences. LMP2 is a cost-controlled prototype class, so the rulemakers (IMSA/ACO/FIA) require teams to run a standardized car platform rather than build wildly different designs. Here is a look at these LMP2 cars in action.
